Need some upgrade advice on path to take

Im looking for some advice on the right path to take here. I got some extra cash and thought I might shore up my cpu a bit but I really need some help from people that have used the chips I have in mind. Let me throw in some back story and tell my uses. I mostly game and play MMO's which really tend to be CPU bound so intel for the muscle they have makes sense but what I really want to know is will moving to intel make a difference in minimum frames and just over all smoothness for the extra money it will cost vs intel?

The only thing stopping me from just getting a 8320(I can sell my 6300 to a friend for a good price easy) is if I will gain in min frames and smoothing the game out going intel. It is really hard finding info on this as most reviews focus on benchmarks and which does higher frames and most the games are shooters and stuff thats more gpu bound. There is also the inevitable AMD vs Intel that tends to crap out most threads about it. I like them both and really have no brand loyalty. I like whichever fills my needs for the cheapest:)

I just feel like my current setup tends to dip more than it should which causes stutter. 4770k/4670k is what I was looking at intel wise and then of course a 8320 or 8350 if I find one on sale for the cheap and easy. My first instinct is the 4770k but reports of how bad it can overclock scares me a bit. I have a seidon 240m with push pull to cool whatever I get. Thanks in advance.

Intels are for more consistent frame rates, improved minimums etc (Which in turn improves frame latency etc)
But a 7870 with an overclocked FX6300 is IMO, a decent balance, I really can't see you gett much more out of an Intel, and certainly not worth getting a 4770K over.

I went from a 6300 @ 4.4 to a 4670k @ 4.5 with a 7970 and I was pleased with the upgrade. Although if I had a motherboard which would have taken a 8320 then I would have gone that root.
However if you can get a decent price for your motherboard and processor might be worth the switch.
As martini said though it is well balanced at the moment, so if you do upgrade it would make a new gpu worthwhile at a later date.

The GPU (as opposed to CPU) you use will make very little difference to your MMO experience (especially if playing WoW). I play wow heavily and use both systems in my sig. The FX8320 @ 4.8 GHz at 1080p produces 45-50 fps minimum (ultra settings) in 25-man raids with all hell breaking loose on screen. Very playable.

The i7 3930k at 4.6 GHz at 1440p with SLIed overclocked 780s gets minimums at around 40-45 fps (ultra settings again).

My advice to you would be the i5 4670k will net you some increase in minimums but you will be hard pressed to notice over a decently overclocked FX8320. I certainly never get stutter or slow downs and I raid almost daily.

Ya its a tough call. Initially I was just gonna stay with what I have and get a better GPU but here in the states anyways GPU prices are really crazy with the bitcoin stuff it raised every AMD card from R9270x and up and in turn the nvidia stuff is right in line with it so it just does not seem like a good time to get a new GPU with me playing mostly MMOs.

Hell even used prices on AMD are high. I was looking for another second hand 7870 and they are going for not much less than what I paid for mine new. If I sold my 6300 to my buddy it would basically cover half the 8320 cost so I am seriously considering it. for that matter I could sell my cpu and mb for about half of what it would take to buy a 4670k and mb so like I said its a tough call. Thanks for the advice and if anyone else has any to throw in I would love to hear it:)
