Hi everyone, It's lucky enough to be my birthday next week so I thought I'd ask for a new gfx card as my old Radeon 9000 was getting a bit past it. After a little research I discovered that my mobo is also way past it, an ASUS A7N8X. It has no PCI-E or AGP4 slot, and I dont want to plump for an old AGP or PCI card when the newer ones are affordable.

Can anyone recommend a mobo that's compatible with old DDR RAM and the new gfx standards? Preferably less than £100 combo, but a little extra wont go amiss. I'm unsure which mobo will take the newer cards as the only ones I've found are either c. £100 or £30 depending on whether they're new or old, with nothing inbetween.

Cheers :)

One has an AMD Athlon XP 2800+, running at 133MHz (max I believe) very old everything in my PC, but am looking at melding old and new into a hybrid until the next present giving season

I think that means you have a socket A connection.

I believe overclockers do not sell socket A motherboards anymore. I also believe that there are no socket A motherboards that support PCI-E.

You'll need to double check your CPU socket type.

If you have socket A there are a few good AGP cards which overclockers sell. Other wise you'll need a new CPU for a PCI-E card
