Hey everyone,

I was happily running Windows 7 RC in dual boot, which I had installed after Windows XP, and I decided I could probably remove XP as I don't use it. I was told that if I removed XP, I'd have to repair startup with the Windows 7 Setup. I deleted the XP partition, leaving only the Windows 7 partition. (Using a copy of GParted that I'd burnt some time ago)

I got the error about missing bootmgr or something with Windows 7, and I proceeded to repair the startup. I tried this a few times and now when it comes to boot, nothing happens after the "Verifying DMI Pool Data" message from the mobo before booting the OS.

From there, Ctrl-Alt-Del restarts the computer, and I booted into Windows 7 Setup again, and in the repair menu, I choose the command prompt (after trying the automated startup repair tool several times again to no avail). I attempted to fix the booting problem manually after finding out some information about the bootrec tool. I used the switches /fixmbr and /fixboot, but it still doesn't work. /checkos and /rebuildbcd noted that it could find 0 Windows installations, although the setup had already found the installation for the automatic startup repair to do. If I try this repair again, it reports that there are no problems with booting, yet I still get nowhere else after the "Verifying DMI Pool Data".

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

as far as i know, "verifying DMI Pool Data" is the process that windows uses to determine how much hardware you've changed. there's a limit to the amount of stuff that you can change before windows throws a wobbly and forces you to reinstall.

in my experience, the beta/RC builds of Windows 7 throw just such a wobbly when you change your hard-disk configuration.

solution: Reinstall 7 or put the partition back :p

Well I deleted the XP partition so I can't really put that back. Might be time for the reinstall then (sigh)

Damnit, it looks like I cant complete the setup of another install because the Verifying pool data message stops it from completing after the reboot after initial setup.
