Getting gamers block, 70% through Tomb Raider and about the same in Far Cry 3 with no motivation to launch either at the mo, I need a change. Perhaps something completely left field. I thought Fez might have been it but it hasn't gripped me. I need something a bit cerebral (or insanely stupid), fun, can be played in short bursts, not reliant on low pings (rules out most multiplayer)

Help me OCUK :o

The Cave
Uplink
Frozen Synapse

edit: and there is a kick ass ninja side scrolling game as well that's well worth playing

edit2: it's Mark of the Ninja

Should have mentioned I've no controller with me, I have Mark of the Ninja, and yes it's epic, but not so much with KB&M :(

Frozen Synapse, will check it out - Keep em coming! )

I was going to suggest Super Meat Boy but with no controller it's pretty cack to control. Most of the games that fit your requirements all seem better with a controller :p.

I played mark the ninja fine with keyboard and mouse, but then I'm not much of a controller fan :p

Plants vs zombies?
maybe look at the popcap games, kinda silly but fun

Would you consider games with interesting, intriguing and thought provoking plots? If so then try a game I recent completed again after a few years of first playing it called Singularity, it is a little known game but it is absolutely brilliant in my opinion. Plus it's fun, and scary in parts.

Gonna go out on a limb here and suggest a Ps1 emulator, you can get ehm...backups of these games off certain websites. Not as if anyone cares, it's a dead platform anyway.

I have a 500gb HDD, it is maxed out with 1800 Ps1 ROMS.....I have not been bored for weeks lol. Currently playing Tomb Raider Chronicals.

Something fun in shirt bursts? Starwars Jedi Knight 2 (that 90s starwars fps) whatever it is called. Good fun and fast paced. Or dead rising 2! But I can't imagine that being good without a controller.

2 suggestions based on my own experience:

- From Dust: Ubisoft-DRM and a tad annoying to control with KB/mouse, but once you get into it, such a massive change from the fast-paced tension that makes up 90% of mainstream games. You play a God-like entity with the ability to shape the environment. I had a good time with it, and found that it provide the change of pace that you described. It is made by the creator of "Another World", and although I would not rate it as a classic, it is certainly a worthwhile investment of time for something different.

- Braid: Jonathan Blow's Indie masterpiece - a platformer with an insanely clever gameplay mechanic. Needs decent application of the brain and is very lovely in the artistic sense. No hesitation in recommending it.

Another vote for From Dust, I loved it and was gutted when there wasn't going to be a sequel or more levels released.
