I'd get a P35-based motherboard if you're not going to run SLi. I'd also get a better cooler for the quad since they're rather toasty at load.

I'll generate a spec...

A wee bit overbudget but very nice:

Nice, anyway, apart from the thermal paste anything else that I need to get, can't think of anything (maybe some fans for the cooler and case?) but want to double check before I order.

I have the Antec 900 and it has ample cooling and no need to add extra fans really, you would need to buy a fan to go on the Thermalright Ultra cooler though.

Rather than making a new thread, was wondering when the new Weekly Offers usually start as I can't order my parts till Monday and with the RAM being on offer I'd rather order that now than wait a few days and pay extra.

i think its friday to friday m8 ;)

Sorry to bump this up again, but I've been reading up on the Thermalright a bit more and I really don't think I can be bothered of lapping it. Just seems like an added bit of work, and also trying to find all of the gear to do it.

So, basically, can it still be used without lapping it? How much extra performance would it give?

Also, any recommendations for other heatsinks?

Only a few examples of the Thermalright exhibit the concavity problem so odds are yours will be just fine. If lapping was necessary it's not all that hard. It'd take about 10 quid in supplies and about an hour of your time. If you decide you don't want to assume the risk, however small, you could look at the Tuniq Tower and Scythe Ninja, previous performance kings.

Right, last few questions, I promise! :p

For the 8800 GTX anyone know if there is much of a difference between the Leadtek one (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-094-LT&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=877) and the BFG one (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-035-BG&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=877) . The only differences I can is one is running at a higher clock speed than the other?

But the fact that the BFG has a lifetime warranty, not to mention a free t-shirt!, is pushing me slightly in that direction. And really when you're spending £1k on a new PC, is £20 really that much?

Also, as for Vista should I bother with 64bit or 32bit?

Well their both the same card, your most likely be able to push the Leadteks clock speeds right upto the BFG's and beyond. Lifetime warranty aint as good as it sounds as tbh 2/3 years is fine although its upto you both all be suitable.

Personally i would go for 64bit Vista simply because it allows you to upgrade to 4GB RAM and considering how cheap RAM is its a likely upgrade considering games are pushing the boundries and with games like Crysis coming out 4GB might be needed, so imo go for the 64bit version.

Ah cool, think I'll save a few quid and get the Leadtek one. Forgot about the fact you could only get 2GB with the 32bit version of Vista.

Thanks for all the help, pretty much decided on what to order now, just need to wait until tomorrow morning. Not sure on whether to get the E6850 or the Q6600, but I'll think about that and probably make a decision five minutes before I order :p

Q6600 :)

Heh, see the thing is I've been talking to a few people and half of them are saying get the E6850 others saying the Q6600. For gaming, in benchmarks atleast, the E6850 seems to have the lead. But how long will that last, will we start to see more games take advantage of the Q6600.

And then with a cooler like the Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme, should be able to OC the Q6600 to at least the E6850 speeds right?
