It's been a while since I last built a PC and I have lost track of where the value and perfromance is.

What I need is a new PC for my wife. Her PC is mainly used for the internet and for playing World of Warcraft on a standard 19" monitor.

How much would I need to spend to build a PC that comfortably runs wow at these sort of resolutions?

I have tried speccing myself but I'm unsure where performance sits with low end core duos and gfx cards now.

I might overclock it some but probably not as I don't think there would be any need.

Thanks for any help in advance.

For 19" and wow, you wont need top of the range gear. A cheap core2duo and 4830/4850 would work great (get a 45nm cpu if possable tho ;)).

Overclock it a little, see what you can get out of it with standard volts, not really hard to do just increasing FSB, and no risk either.

Thanks :)

I shall do some further investigation.

Can't remember how to post my spec ideas on here :p It's been a while!

i seriosuly doubt you need a 4850 to play wow on a 19" monitor :D
a 9600gt would be more than enough, coupled with a e2200 or so, 2gb ram and decent p35 mainboard

The situation has now changed slightly as the gaming res will now be 1680 X 1050.

Will this spec be ok or do I have to up the gfx card?

Asus P5QL Pro Intel P43 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.50GHz (800FSB) - Retail
HIS ATI Radeon HD 4670 IceQ Turbo 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI
Corsair VX 450W ATX PSU (CMPSU-450VXUK)
Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black (No PSU)
Samsung SpinPoint F1 320GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD322HJ)
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX (2x1GB)
Samsung SH-S223F/RSMN 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter Black
Arctic Cooling Alpine 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775)

Some bright spark is buying her a new monitor which I think may cost me money :p

4670 will run wow fine at that res, not sure you will be able to put the draw distance on full while using highest settings without a fps hit tho.

I used to run wow on 440mx AGP without any real fps issues, i cant see 4670 breaking a sweat tbh lol.
