Need the best Xbox 360 Headset available :)

Who cares when youre playing a game that you dont need to rely on sound cues to stay alive, or watching a movie. Love a bit of bass. thats why I have an astro for COD etc. Poor amp for nice trebley footsteps

I like my games to sound good across the whole range. :o

I guess if you just wanted bass you might find the DSS more pleasing. I'm not sure I'd always say more bass is the same as better sound quality.

The MixAmp/A40 combo I'm using as the moment has more than enough bass for my tastes personally. :)

Im using hd600s. the astro i have is poor sound compared to the dss, may sound ok to your a40s but then they are not reknowned for being a quality sounding headset. Could also be that maybe your mixamp is an updated version of mine and they sorted it out but I cant comment on the 5.8 one

I've got an original one (I was on the trial when they started shipping to the UK), and it sounds great with my HD598s as well..

What you're talking about is completely subjective opinion, and it's one I can't really agree with going from my experiences and reading other peoples reviews.

If you think the Astro amp sounds "poor", I'd suggest there's something wrong with yours. It seems contrary to most other peoples experiences with it.

Not really. Ive come across plenty of astro users on other forums who agree with me and would swap their astro for a dss if it had a voice mixer.

I'd love to see some reviews or something to back this up. :) As I say, this is contrary to the opinions and general consensus I've seen elsewhere, (and on this forum as well). And again... each to their own. I wouldn't trade my MixAmp for a DSS if you paid me, especially as I love good build quality.

Astro headsets are OK, and avoid turtlebeach amps if you value voice chat.

By far the best combination is the Astro wired Mixamp with Sennheiser PC360 headset. It's what I have now and is the only choice without compromise imo.

Works well on the PS3 and PC too.

I recentluy got this.
I buy a lot of stuff, some things I kinda regret as they ultimately fail to deliver on the buzz just before pressing the buy button.
This purchase however, I have not regretted for one moment and I'm still blown away by the quality and the most incredible directional awareness you get from using this combo.

Couldnt recommend this enough.

why? Im an astro user who is of this opinion also, you dont want to hear any other opinion other than your own, so whats the point? why link to posts on other forums saying the same thing, or do you think I made that up for whatever reason?
Not really bothered by your confusion tbh.

Calm down love. No need to get tetchy over it.

You're giving an opinion that is contrary to other opinions on this thread, and contrary to opinions I've read in reviews and on other forums. There's what? Seven people in this thread giving a thumbs up for the MixAmp and you seem to think it's poor compared to the DSS.

I'm interested to know if there's basis behind your view. If there's a load of reviews that share your opinion that the DSS blows the MixAmp away like you claim, then clearly me and the people on this forum could be missing out on a trick.

Im not tetchy, so no need for me to calm down, really.
I give a thumbs up to the mixamp, I just said that in comparison to the dss amp, which is a lot cheaper, it really has a poor amp inside, and doesnt sound as good as the dss, but you dont seem to be able to deal with somebody having this opinion.
Of course theres a basis behind my view! I have both and it is my opinion as a user of both! And as I said I have come across other users elsewhere, on forums, not 'reviews' that also think the dss sounds a lot warmer than the astro, yet use the astro as it has voice mixer, and they are using high end beyers so....
really, dont worry about it.

I'm after a headset

but would really only like to spend ~ £100 as i've already got a 4 figure Home Cinema 5.1 system, but want a headset for late night sessions when this would wake the wife up.

Whats so bad about the Turtle Beach ones ?

Yes avoid from what I've heard too.

Get the 360's, your Amp may already handle Dolby Headphone anyway. So there would be no need for the MixAmp.

360's can be had for ~£100.

I've been using a Astro 5.8 with my own headphones(akg 702) for the last week and a bit. I was worried that it wouldn't drive them to a usable volume(they are huge and notoriously picky), but it does. With the voice mixer at 12 o'clock and the volume on the Rx(reciever) up full I can get away with the volume I would normally use with my dedicated stereo headphone amp. On the loud side of healthy. Hardly the kind of power from other amps I have, but I'm not going to miss making myself deaf or blowing headphones as an option.

Sound quality is far better than I thought it would be. I was just after the same Dolby effect I use on the pc for the eggbox and pstriple. So getting good sound and it being wireless has been a huge bonus. It's not going to replace my amped sound card or headphone amp, but I've not had the urge to turn my nose up at it once. I'm thrilled.

I've ordered one of the antlion modmics. So I'll hopefully be sharing my experience with that very soon.

I would definitely recommend a mixamp, headphones of choice and a mic. Probably a ModMic and taking a great idea from earlier in the thread, you could braid the ModMic onto you headphone cable. If the ModMic lives up to expectation it'll be a bit of a godsend. I'll have it soon anyway and be sure to let everyone know how it goes.
