Need to build my clan a web forum

Any recommendations for building a website with a pass worded forum for my clan members.

Ideally to be free, or willing to pay around £100 yearly if it would be a lot better.
I've seen many free sites with template builders as I'm not very knowledgeable with html.

Not sure which host to use :confused:

Easy peasy. Get a host with at least one SQL database.

I think the basic will do. You then go to phpBB and get their free forum software. You will need to install it onto the webserver, there are plenty of guides out there. As long as you have a basic grasp of how stuff works in a PC, then you will be fine with it. You do not need to know PHP, HTML ro anything else, I have set up a few forums, inc vbulletin, though I can read a bit of web language, I cannot write it. Luckily, google is your friend!

Thank you, I'm going for the annual basic package. It gives me a option to install phpBB for free so, guess I won't need to go to phpBB and get their free forum software.

Well, you will probably be getting the same thing! You can customise it, and phpBB is easy to get to grips with. Make sure you set all the permissions and test drive it for a bit. I would not give anyone else full admin!

Why not have a wordpress frontpage with teamspeak info, gameserver ip, explain what the clan is and recruitment page, then have pressbb as the forum inside wordpress?

My clan is not an FPS clan, its more of a Warcraft/Starcraft clan for a game called 'Clash of Clans' on ios. Though we needed a forum as we have 50 members and our in game chat is small and limited. I would like to make a mainpage. Now it just takes me straight to the board index.

I've had a look at that and it looks nice, but not sure if we would need that. Just want to keep things simple really.

It can be done as simple as you want it to be. It's actually the homepage you mentioned above as wanting.

Is Wordpress the best for making a Homepage?

If you only want a basic home page it's best to write the html yourself and call it index.html.

If you think that board3, which exists solely to act as a portal/homepage specifically for phpbb, wasn't simple enough, I really can't see you wanting to install and run wordpress just to do something similar.

What is it you want on your homepage exactly? Might make it easier to make suggestions.
