Wife is looking for something basic, fire roads the occasional little downhill. We're getting it through the cycle to work scheme. Medium size frame on 29rs ideally.

BUDGET: £500

2nd)

Good friend looking to join me on my rides. Mostly riding DH tracks and fire roads. He understand he wont be getting a world beater but hopes to have something to tie him over to see if the sport is for him or not. So far lent him a bike, he seems to enjoy it. Again having it on the ride to work Scheme.

BUDGET: £600

I'm assuming you don't mean full on DH trails and more like trail centres?

At this price within the bigger brands you'll get similar specs at each price point.

£500 will get you something with cheaper 27 speed, basic fork with locket and hydraulic brakes. We sell a lot of the Felt Nine 70, Orbea MX29 also comes in various specs above and below the budget.

The second bike same again but maybe go with 27.5" wheels? Again Felt do the 7 range or orbea with the MX 27 models.

On the 27" side of things they do seem to have the longer top tube and wide bar setups compared to cheaper 'all use' bikes(like the Orbea sport models). Orbea MX 27 20 is 30 speed with shimano hydraulics at at the £600 mark.
