I am choosing :

English & Englsih Literature
Double Science
Double Maths (1 in maths, 1 in statistics)
Business Studies
Media Studies (Have to do an "Art" subject)
I.C.T. - OF COURSE ;) - Diploma, equivalent to 4 GCSE'S , which is nice ;)

This is the Dilemma :
I can choose 1 more subject and its either between French or Geography.

I gained an "A" in a previous past paper in geography (In a GCSE Past paper)

French - Also good at.

What do I doooo?

Do you have any career prospects? I know it's early so don't read to much into that. I think a GCSE in french generally would go down better with an employer than geography (unless that's the area you want to go into to).

tell yourself: whats more useful? a language that no one wants to listen to or whatever it is you do in geography? :p

(joking before any french people come and attack me)

joking aside, french is probably the better option, though it depends what you want to do career wise

Languages might seem boring in year 9 but they're damn useful and learning the transferrable skills involved in learning one language makes learning another much easier, which is massively useful if you're going to emigrate/travel when you're older :)

I did both Geography and French, and having been to France a few times since I wish I'd carried on learning it at A-level, or at least just done it off my own back. If you think Geography will help you with whatever you want to go on to do then take it, but a foreign language as prevalent as French will help you out even if you only know the basics. I'd go for French.

Edit: Damn, beaten more times than Whitney Houston.

My post is regards to your college years.. if you go.. i didnt read you rpost preoperly.. sorry :p but what i say is true :)

choose english maths and science wherever possible

even when going to college.

if you have the qualifications on english maths and science... you are laughing

if you choose linear subjects like.. music.. or goegraphy... all very well, but the person with high grades in english maths and science will be considered more over the the person with an A* in music.

fair enough it may not be as fun, but then you have an open book when it comes to higher education... or employment

My god, this posts makes me feel old! I started using forums when I was your age, nigh on 7 years ago!

Back OT... Languages are always useful. As robmiller says, once you've learnt one it's far easier to pick up another. Being fluent in another language is extremely attractive to employers. That's what I'd go for in your position, if you have a talent for it. Oh how I wish I hadn't dropped A-level German :(.

It depends really if you want to do what you want or what you think you'll need later on in life. Personally I hated french and decided to do Spanish instead at GCSE, it was a hell of a lot more work but it was worth it imo :)

I guess what I'm saying is have a talk with your parents/teachers and make your own mind up

I wanted to go in the Business side of things ... Was going to do stocks and shares... (Risky I know)

Job prospect 2 :
Computer programmer, - Games industry

The 4 GCSE ICT course is absolute crap. I'd highly recommend taking (Certificate In) Digital Applications instead.

Unless this isn't the course that takes two options.

I'm taking it now and regret it every day. It is menial, repetitive, useless work which just sucks.

History is pretty good. :)

Another subject to stay clear of is Philosophy and Ethics. It might sound interesting in the booklet your school (should) gives you, but it really isn't, there have been loads of people switching from this to other subjects.

The ICT course is called DiDA - Diploma in Digital Applications. I teach this, it isn't an easy way to get 4 GCSE's you do 4 projects that take a lot of time and effort. If you're prepared to work hard and enjoy doing research and doing all your work on a computer then it's a good course.
You will spend about 5 hours a week doing this course.

If you're looking for an easy option - don't choose DiDA

On the other hand I'm also a Business Studies teacher. This is my favourite subject :)
Again if you're willing to work hard this is a great talk, but some topics are complicated and it's important you listen and take stuff in.

Hope this helps :D

LynnieLeigh: isn't it 1 GCSE for Digital Applications (takes up one of your choices) and 4 GCSEs for GNVQ/ICT Full Award (takes up two of your choices)?
