need to convert office 2007 file to office 2003

Just download the Office 2007 compatability pack for Office 2003. Then you can open the stuff in Office 2003 and save as 2003 again.

i did that, as per usual for a microsoft product it will only open 1 of the seven files i need it to open that were created by office 07, the rest it just gives me a bloody error for.

everyone who owns office 2003 should do that!

i would and we did but alas everyone in the office hates 07, hence the roll back.

Then I'd suggest its the files that have the problems, given that I've installed and used the compatibility pack on literally HUNDREDS of machines, for HUNDREDS of documents, with no issues.

well i just converted the docs it wouldn't open using 3rd party software, now i have to find a way to convert the excel .xlsx files to .xls

the files seem to be fine, it just seems the converters not too good at its job.

I got fed up of installing 2007 viewer on everything, ended up installing it on all our machines via a group policy.

Nice.

2007 is better, it's just different

the help files let you find everything

oh dont get me wrong, i have no issues with it, but the people i work with want familiarity and ease of use, they have no time nor patience for a new system.

true at some point they wont have a choice but for now its easier for them. Hell i had a hard enough time getting them onto winblows vista business.

if you have 2007 installed you can save it in an older format

i presumed there would be a method in place for reading newer office files on 2003. seems i was mistaken.
There is, the compatibility pack.

Seems you should have done a little reading up before you did a mass migration, and then again when you tried to reverse the process.

I certainly wouldn't hire you to work in my department.

The new office file formats are mostly XML based (hence docx, xlsx, etc), and as such the older versions of the office suite had NO WAY of opening them without external updates.

lol, nice. For your information I am not an ITC. I fix and install hardware mainly on a private basis. However my main job for this firm is Administration and Finance management of England's First luxury Design Consultancy. It just happens that i also do their I.T. including fitting a proper network infrastructure which has enabled them to access, control and use their data from anywhere in the world. Their main destinations being Switzerland, France and the United States.

so barring your snipe and a hickup with office im actually quite proud of my achievements given im not qualified in any field i have mentioned. The directors are happy with me too and thats what matters. :D
