Need to do something about my gpu's fan noise.

I've determine that when idle at least, the gpu fans are by far the biggest cause of noise in the system, forcibly stopping them greatly reduces noise and doesn't seem to increase gpu temp at idle. Is there any way to disable the fans at idle or replace the two fans with something silent? HD6950 2GB BTW.

have you though about a 7850? and sell your current card? i had a 5870 and the fan on that was loud, went to an msi tf3 and cant hear the fan at all in gaming, max temp i get is 66c,youll use less power too

If you'd like automatic control of those strapped on fans on your cooler you could look towards utilising PWM fans and a GPU fan header to standard fan header converter (I think Gelid do one), or if you are going with 3 pin fans then a PWM to 3 pin converter, like the one I use.

It's a shame to not use the PWM output of the GPU when actively controlling a source of heat.

After seeing the prices of gpu coolers I'm going with the much cheaper option of mounting 2x12cm fans to my gpu and connecting to my fan controller. :D

lol just don't forget to turn them on...

Had that problem once, new fan controller + case fans and did NOT realise turning them all the way down actually STOPS them. Found out shortly after realising my room was a heatwave and my pc crashed :D
