Okay, still planning for my future water cooling build.

I just wanted to make sure about compression fittings.

I am looking to get 7/16" hosing.

If the thread on a water cooling component is a 1/4" thread, will I need this to go with my 7/16" hosing?

I'm not 100% sure what the abbreviations mean, but I'm guessing:

ID = Inner Diameter
OD = Outer Diameter

Is this correct?

Good call on checking. Don't use 7/16" tubing with 1/2" compression fittings, it won't work.

ID and OD are right. Compression fittings have to match tubing. So use 1/2" ID tubing = 1/2" tubing with 1/2" compression fittings.

The 7/16" over 1/2" idea is only applicable to barbs. Compression fittings are more precise pieces of equipment than barbs, got to make sure they match.

I'm using 10/8mm compression fittings with a different nut that allows them to take 11/8mm tubing. Can't see myself changing from this. Hope the above is clear

So your saying to get 1/2" hosing, along with 1/2" compression fittings, rather than have 7/16" hosing over 1/2" barbs?

Also would you mind explaining why having 7/16" hosing with 1/2" compression fittings won't work.

Because the tubing wont fit, mainly. The tolerances on compression fittings are tight enough that you can't fit different size tubes into them.

Most people on here use 7/16" over 1/2" barbs with jubilee clamps. That's probably the community recommended. I like compressions, they're not easier though. They tend to twist the tubing when you screw them in, which then kinks.

However, if the compression fitting is tightened down on the end of the tubing there's not a chance that part is going to leak. Completely removes that point of failure, which I think is worthwhile.
