Need to get a shader 3 on this old girl!

Hi I am an eve player, I am getting a new rig soon actually have posted on here about it.

The problem is the latest patch has switched off my old pc! Basically you NEED shader 3.0 to play at all. I would like to get the old girl EvE ready once more so I can take my time to get my new P.C (the cheeky ** Please fully star out swearies ** wont let you put prepaid time on hold!)

It had a new case and PSU I currently have a Radeon x800 Pro the cpu and board are original.

So What max Ram can I get and what type and can the board take a Graphics card that can get me shader 3.0 ready?

Any Ati GPU in the X1xxx series and higher supports shader model 3.

nVIDIA GPUs have supported this figure a generation earlier so any GPU from the 6xxx series and higher.

I would look for something along the lines of 7600/7800/7900 GPU from nvidia. Loved the old X1950 PRO ATi card too.

Your card needs to be AGP btw, not PCI-e most probably based on the chipset you have.
 
its very expensive as a temporary upgrade, but i can tell you the GTX460 has shader model 3.0, as i remember trying to install duty calls onto my laptop and had the same problem as you are having with eve. duty calls works on my current PC, so it must have shader model 3.0

i'm wondering if the lower end 400 series will have shader model 3.0, like the 430

The problem is I have Agp on that board, I posted above, not pci-e.
