I've started a new project in work, and some of the features require Windows 98, so I need to pick up a reasonably small/light laptop with good battery life and <£200. Needs to have Serial and printer ports built in. Any suggestions?
No, my laptop doesnt have a serial port but more importantly I need this to be a standalone machine. It'll be out in the "field" so to speak, so I dont want it to be anything special or expensive either. Just wondering if there are any good, long battery life, small but old laptops out there..
Just get a port replicator and use a modern laptop.
If this needs to be something to use in the field - it needs to be robust and replaceable. You do not want to be on site, pour tea on your 98 laptop, and then say you have to wait 3 weeks till something shows up on eBay.
Just keep your eyes open, I've managed to aqquire many laptops that do exactly what you're after for free. New battery off the auction site and there you go, sorted.
For example I got hold of a Dell Latitude L400 the other week, perfect working order except the battery, which is now on order for £40
