OK, almost all game in my collection are FPS, and I really feel like I need a change. I am just not sure what else I would really like.

When it comes to RTS, I have COH, and liked that and will get the expansion some time, but apart from that I did not like Supreme commander, and the last time I played an RTS that I liked before SC was the original C&C.

I loved C&C and am going to get Decades collection, but what other RTS games are there that are fun, not too slow paced, and are not too heavy and involved.

I have never tried things like the Civilization games, and have not played any of the Total War games... They always look to me like there is little going on in them... is this wrong? Are they "exciting"?

I am not looking specifically for an RTS here, possibly a RPG, its just that I am not sure what else I like. Where RPG's are concerned, all I have played is Oblivion.

Have just been so caught up in FPS games that most of the other genres have kind of slipped me by...

So what can you suggest that is fun, not too involved, not too intense, not slow?

Civilisation IV - Suprisingly (and annoyingly) addictive game. It's very good and definately got some addtions i enjoyed since the previous Civ I played (Civ2).

Oh and Knights of the Old Republic...just buy 1 and 2. Enjoy :)

I think Dawn of War Anthology is what you are looking for, a great fun and fast paced RTS from the makers of CoH.

Civ games are great, fantastic depth but you can get a bit bogged down at times so it may not be your cup of tea.

KOTOR is terrific, it draws you in and I'm not much of an RPG player since the mid90s.

Would like to try the original KOTOR, but when I can actually find it, it is very expensive for an old game... don't know why they have not released it as a budget game...

As for DOW... I have the original here which I got with COH, but it stutters for some reason on my pc (which ain't slow) and that kind of put me off.

Been a while since I tried it (DOW), but was sure it was the most up to date version. Maybe will try it again.

Tried the Beta for WIC, and the game jsut didn't work for me... I hear the single player campaign isn't anything special as well, which is mostly what I would want it for.

Have decided will give the following a try:
Starcraft (never played it)
Earth 2160 (Just got it for under £3 off steam)
Civilization 4
Dungeon Siege
Titan Quest
Medieval Total War
And will have a search for KOTOR

get a cheap controller and get a few need for speeds, especially the underground and most wanted, they are great fun :)

World in conflict is an absolutely amazing game, one of the best RTS's ive ever played. Along with MEdieval 2 total war.

Are the medieval games very complicated? Am going to get the first one to try out, but if its going to tax my poor brain I might not like it :)

No not really:)

Once you have got the hang of it you should do good:)

Make sure you get some of the realism mods for it aswell:)

I'd highly recommend the Total War games. There are two destinct game styles in there: realtime battles and turn based strategy. They give a nice change of pace. The battles are only really exciting if you don't abuse the pause button - it gives you something of an unfair advantage.

If you fancy an RPG/FPS (with the option of playing in 3rd person) crossover I'd recommend Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines. It's a little rough around the edges but has the best in game script and voice acting I've come across. Great story too and one level in particular had me the closest to being scared that I've ever been in a game. If you try to play it as a pure FPS it's not really much fun. Take your time, take in the atmosphere and pay attention to the story and it's still one of the best experiences PC gaming has to offer. Dirt cheap on Steam too (make sure it's patched if not).

Final list. Just waiting to win some bids:
Civ 4
C&C Decades
Titan quest
earth 2160
starcraft + Brood wars
Medieval

This should keep me really busy for quite some time, provided I like the games.

I see starcraft 2 might be slated for a Q1 release next year, so the first one will probably one of the first I try.

And I have to say, I am really looking forward to getting through the C&C games. I used to love the first one, and have not even touched on all the others in the series.

Guess I have just never had that much time for gaming. At the moment don't have much to keep me busy, so time for some major catching up :)

Medieval? That's Medieval 2: Total War? The first one's a good game but getting long in the tooth now.

Just the first one. Remember, having not played any of them I have nothing to compare it to. Was just going for the cheaper option in case I don't like it.

Will be easier for me going from 1 to 2 than it would going the other way if I liked it :)

I wouldn't bet on SC2 before Q4 next year.

The C&C decade pack is fantastic, it's just a shame Generals sucks ass.

company of heroes is well worth a try

very little resource management as such, just control point management. Push forward hard and fast and you'll reap the rewards

plus it has lots of lovely touches, like the ability for tanks to destroy just about every building / feature of the map

and if your tank doesnt destroy it, your infantry units can garrison it for extra defence. However, at that stage of the game (infantry point) you can get them out of their little improvised fortress by using flame throwers to burn it down !

great game.

Ahh I see. If price is an issue, I'd suggest Rome: Total War. It's based on the same engine as Medieval 2 and is now out as a budget release. I just did a quick price search and it can be had new for a fiver or with the Barbarian Invasion expansion pack for a couple of quid more.

Some people do argue that the battlefield AI is better in Medieval: Total War though.
