Hi guys. Basically my mobo died last week, I'm looking for a replacement atm, but in the mean-time i need to get some work off my C:\ drive, it has XP pro installed, and is password protected from the login screen.

I'll be plugging the drive into a second rig obviously (running Vista) to get the data. Is it going to be a simple case of plugging it in, making sure that the boot device is correctly set in bios and just booting into vista and browsing/copying?, or am i going to hit security issues due to my old drive being password protected?.

Any help appreciated :)

should work but if you have enabled encryption you may hit a snag

you will most likely need to take ownership through the security page of the drive properties or folder properties.

the other option is to use the drive itself to boot from which may or may not work

Ah good, sounds less complex than I had feared (feared some sort of 4 hour boot disk command console nightmare). I haven't enabled encryption, I'll give it a go anyway. Cheers duders :).

Worked fine :)

I decided to boot into xp, see if it would handle the hardware changes. Fortunately it did :).
