So with building a new PC the thing that got the ball rolling with the idea was that my brother upgraded his PC and got a new GPU, Power Supply and Case. Meaning that he no longer needed his old stuff... so i purchased it off him for 80 GBP..

Now here's the decision, the graphics card is a XFX radeon HD 7800 2GB. Is it worth SLi'ing the card or just use it for the time being then save and upgrade to get two 970's or whatever is out at the time?

I understand that if i SLi'd I would have to upgrade from the 450W PSU but that's not problem as I'll probably need to with the Overclock i would like to do as well.

So your opinions please :)

Depends on what type of games you play and what type of monitor you have.

A 7850/7870 should play most new games at 1080p, at medium and sometimes high settings. So that should keep you going for a year or two, until you manage to save.

Can you paste the rest of your system specs (including monitor) ?

id just use it
plenty good games can play on 7850
I been playing transistor a lot
this war of mine and some usual LoL :)

all these play easy on 7850

Right so I haven't actually built the system yet.. i will be when I get paid but the spec will be as followed:

Intel i5-4690K & Cool master hyper 212 fan
Asus Z97 Pro Gamer Intel Z97
Avexir Core Red Series 8GB
XFX Radeon HD7800 2GB (Already got)
450W Corsair PSU (already got)
3 x Asus VN247H 24"
and a 128GB SSD of some kind and a 1TB normal HDD.
and a case of some description, I haven't looked into that yet...

So the CPU and Mobo are a thing to set me up for the future, this is literally to get me going as I miss PC gaming so much! it will be upgraded over the coming months. I'll probably just get one monitor for the time being then get the other two later on but i do want a triple monitor set up. This is just a quick and cheap solution to get me back out there!

Thanks

why you going 3 screens? car games?
rest of it looks pretty sensible :)

I like 1 big screen myself and maybe a smaller 1 to the side

Elite Dangerous!! and yeah, I'm a massive 'car game' fan!

I used to have a 27" monitor and I did like it but I played my friends 3 screen set up and I fell in love.

So would you not bother SLi'ing the card? just leave it and buy a really good one down the line?

I don't like AMD to be honest, I have had a lot of trouble with drivers in the past, all my Nvidia experiences have been far better so I would like to switch over but if it will save me money buying a £130 card and getting better game play I can deal with AMD :)

we into diff games for sure, im rubbish at car games :)

its called crossfire on amd but yeh id use it as is then replace it later
its still not a bad card but doesn't support a lot of stuff coming up so its not worth buying a 2nd

and amd drivers have got a lot better, you might just like it

Don't get me wrong, I do play my fair share of shooters and RPG games too.

Yeah it's all the same though :p

Okay, I'll leave it as it is, then SLi some proper cards :D

Thank you for your help, this forum is by far one of the most helpful i've ever used!
