Hi all,

Some help and guidance please.

I've got two machines (Laptop running Vista Home Premium) and then a PC upstairs running XP.

The Laptop is connected the TV downstairs... but the video files are on the XP PC upstairs..

So what shall I do?

Thanks

network the two together and then you will have access to the files on the other pc.

edit:

are they already networked?

Both are connected to the same Router etc... So they are already on the LAN. I know in XP there is a Network Setup Wizard - is this what I need to run? What and how do I do the same on the Vista?

Right click the folder on the XP machine > Properties > Sharing (this is from memory so might not be 100% accurate) and share the folder for Everyone.

Then on the Vista laptop right click My Computer, Map Network drive and then either browse for it or type in \\"XP computer name"\"path of shared folder"

This is the nutshell version, you'll have to post back any problems with firewalls etc.

just make sure they are both on the same workgroup

on xp, right click my computer, properties, computer name and look at the name of the workgroup

make sure the vista pc is on the same workgroup name.

then do the sharing thing above and you should see the folders on the other pc
