Morning All,

On with sorting out the garden, and as it is a new build there is a load of rubble being unearthed in the progress.

I have got a hippo bag at the ready, however I think there is more than 1.5 tonne worth.

What is the maximum weight I could take in the back of a punto grande sporting?

Thinking of doing a few trips to the tip...but don't fancy breaking the suspension!

Thanks

Have a look at the VIN plate it should say on there:
Don't exceed the Maximum Authorised Mass (MAM) / Maximum Permitted Weight (MPW) – this is the technically permissible maximum weight of the vehicle based on the capability of tyres, suspension, etc. It includes everything in/on the car (the payload), the driver and passengers and is normally shown on the VIN plate and/or in the handbook.
Bear in mind that should probably spread between the axles as much as possible.

Is the extra trips to the tip, and the unloading worth it to save paying for a skip? If it's just hardcore it shouldn't be as expensive as a general waste skip...

Yup it'll be there, too. He needs to be careful to not overload the rear axle, though. You can't put 100% of the payload in the boot.

Certainly agree with kingy.

How are you going to get a 100kg + hippo bag in and out of a punto easily?

I would say you'll be looking at 10 trips to the tip when a small skip would do it easily in one go!

Went last week with a couple of bags of rubble when I sorted front garden out, no mention of a charge mate...you sure £2.90 isn't just beer money? Seems the same price as a pint of bitter!

I put ~400kg equally distributed around the car when I went to the tip once in a car I didn't car too much about.

I put the bags in the footwells to help spread the weight about, figured it wasn't too far off having a car full of 5 people.

No bribes required at the tip either.

No seriously, a bloke was going to be charged £2.90 to dump one, yes one paving slab at the local council dump.......that cost 99p in the first place!

Worlds gone mad I tell you.......

6 black bag size loads in 6 months at our tip when it comes to hardcore/rubble - but in reality they don't enforce it unless you take the mick and make repeated visits on one day.

As for your Punto, something like a Citroen Berlingo has a load capacity of about 500kg from memory, I would not even get close to that myself in a small hatch with no dedicated load space. I carried about 300kg of sand in the Golf recently and it really felt like too much for comfort.

Dont forget when you are talking about carrying loads in your car that you need to double the weight for every metre it is away from the axle to calculate the weight over the axle.
Just the same as if you were driving a truck, and the fines and punishments you receive for exceeding that weight are exactly the same as well.

I would phone up your local skip company, explain that you have a load of rubble ready to go. I bet that one of your locals will be happy to send a van round with a couple of blokes to help load it up for less than the cost of a small skip.

No ruined car, help shifting it and no skip hanging round... win all round.

Oh and just to throw my 2p in I think the most I loaded into my Octavia was 250kg and that was as much as I would want to stick in that!

You'd have to find a very helpful skip company to send a van and blokes round to load it away!

You'd be looking at £££......surely?

Not really, especially not for that kind of waste. I phoned and asked for a skip when I was in that situation and they offered that instead.

Saves them two trips (one to drop off and one to collect) in the skip lorry, saves them having one of their skips in use as well.

Don't get me wrong, it was cheaper than a skip but not by a huge amount. £10 or so IIRC but the convenience was worth much more.
