How would i go about doing this?

I need to move a car that has insurance & MOT 8.5 miles but it has no road tax, am i right in thinking i cannot tow it?

I only need to get the car to my house from a friends so i can put it on e-bay as he owes me £100 and has said i can take his '98 1.8TD Mondeo instead as he is a bit short on cash and it's taking his driveway up.

I intend to give him back any extra i get once i've got my £100 and covered e-bay listing fees.

1) Tax it
2) Low-loader it
3) Possibly take it to a MOT

It's already MOT'd, And i aint putting tax on it as once i get it to my house it's never going to be driven again.

If low loadering it is my only option then i'm prolly gonna have to risk it.

Am i right in thinking if i cover the rear number plate with an ON TOW sign accompanied with the towing cars reg number this is also not allowed?

I think the way it work is that if its wheels are on the road it needs tax, towed or not. You need a low loader to shift it to avoid possible problems. You can take a chance and tow it but if a police car comes up behind you he may check the reg just to be anal and it would have course flag up on the system.

If you're going to be selling it, surely having road tax is going to be a plus?

I only want £120, anything more is just a bonus. Just want it gone by next weekend, only putting it up with a 3 Day auction and a buy it now of around £200.

I might get someone to follow me home & stick to my rear to hide my back end from any following cars :D
