Hey guys and girls,

Ive had this setup for quite some time now and the mobo recently died on me.

Asus P5N32-E SLI
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 overclocked to 3.0ghz
4gb Corsair DDR2 RAM (cant remember speed or version)

I set about looking into a new motherboard to use the other hardware I already have and found that the Asus P5Q series mobos were really popular and good for overclocking. But that was a couple years ago now and trying to find one (on fleabay and obviously on overclockers) has proved difficult. (I know overclockers has a vanilla B Grade P5Q still available)

I see overclockers still have one P45 mobo going, the Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3LR. I was put off quickly as A.) its a Gigabyte and B.) its DDR3 not DDR2.

So, after reading about how good the old Asus P5Q mobos were coupled with a Q6600. Im now looking for the 'new gen' top dog combination of mobo and cpu for a gaming rig.

This may sound a silly question but what is the current equivilent of the Intel i3, i5 and i7 to the old Q6600's?

Secondly, whats the current Asus board of choice for gaming and overclocking, Ive been looking at the P7P55 series boards, is P55 the new P45 but for 1156 sockets and not 775's?

Any adivce would be much appreciated.

either MSI or gigabyte should be fine, gigabyte has a 3 year warranty from date of it being made.

not to sure what MSI offers in terms of warranty tho

Have Gigabyte inproved over the recent years then, maybe I was wrong but I always thought Asus to be much better brand for build quality and overclocking.

gigabyte are very stronge, i say their better then asus, and they have good overclocking as well, MSI is the same, MSI i think are starting to take the lead for OCing, but atm asus, MSI and gigabyte are about even, but asus is starting to fall behind in my opion

short story : asus aint any better then gigabyte or MSI anymore

Edit : im not to sure how asrock or foxxcon stand up, but they seam to be solid, if im wrong with anything here im sure someone will correct me

Cheers for your help Stretched, mucho appreciated!
