Hi OCUK

I have promised to upgrade my 3 sons PCs for the summer. I would like to buy new graphics cards for them as they currently have GT430 (which is crap).

I have a budget of £200 each and a max watts limit of 300 which should be ample. They have AMD FX-8 CPU with 8Gb RAM. I would like to get them GTX 970's but am struggling with the price. Alternatively the GTX 960 4Gb.

What do you think?

You won't get a new 970 for less than £200, your budget would suit a AMD R9 380 or Nvidia GTX 960, and anything more and you'll be needing a new PSU, as it stands you are really pushing it with 300w (if it is a quality build) with those cards, depending on what you have inside it doesn't give you much room when you have to take GPU, CPU, Mobo, HDD/SSD, case fans, DVD, wireless card and anything else into consideration.

If it were me I would upgrade the PSU too, at least 400w.

Just to clarify on the power. They have 650w PSUs, but i calculated they have 300w to spare once i take out their old graphics cards.
 
usually the 970s are about the 200 mark on the members market if second hand is a better option if you really want nvidia maybe go for a 960 the 750ti is a decent card for its price too
 
lol, i can only imagine what that would be like. I think i'll have to go with the GTX 960 4Gb. I would have loved to get them a 970 but I guess its not to be.

I'd be looking in the members center for someone selling a old Crossfire setup of HD 7970 or R9 280x, if you offered to buy both they would sell them cheaper to you with less postage. Both have 3GB of RAM so no issue @1080p.
