Hi Guys,

I am in the process of getting a new graphics card. Currently i have ancient HD4850! Which server me well.

Anyway i game at 1680x1050 and doubt i will be changing screen anytime soon.

I have been looking at 7950 series. But wouldnt it be a little too much for that resolution? What about 7850/7870?

Reason i would want to save a bit is that i am planning to get card now until new HD8xxx/GTX7xx series come out.

Cheers.

I got an OC edition of the 7850 and it is at 1200 core and 1450 memory at the moment. I might be able to get some more out of it when I test it using Heaven. I have not done any detailed voltage stuff, I have only used the power slider available in the control panel.

That is nice! what one have you got? I havent looked into 7800 series as i was looking to get 7970! As long as i will be able to max out bf3, far cry 3, stalker etc on 1680x1050,i think that is the card for me.

It is a Sapphire 7850 OC 2GB. The stress testing with FurMark only got it to 74C too. If Heaven benchmarks increase with further clocks then there could be more to come. I don't play Stalker, but BF3 is maxed out at 1680x1050 (even at stock clocks it was).

The Gigabyte looks like it could be the best as it starts with the highest clock. I've not used any of those cards, so can't comment further.
