Howdy folks. I'm in Uni at the moment and the labs that I go to are all switching to a system where printing costs money per page. It begins 1 Feb. Before then, I've decided, I need to rasterbate a wall covering for myself.

I'm looking for some cool ideas on what to print out. The area is about 10 feet wide and 6 feet tall. If the image is more square than that ratio I don't care as it can duck behind some of the furniture that protrudes along the wall.

I'm really open to any suggestions. Just answer this, what would look cool on a wall?

Anything remotely high contrast. I did a massive HL2 logo for an experiment, that worked well - I don't have the wall space to do anything proper, though :(

I did a Mercedes car, but the edges are curling now, so I'll probably do another one soon.

So i'll bump this for more suggestions :)

I've been considering doing something from renaissance art. then again, I've also been looking at some modern stuff. I'm working on it. I'll get back to ya'll...

Just now I've been looking at fractals. This could be very cool.

Does anyone know of a program that lets you preview the files before you print it? Because i can only see one page at a time on the print preview... and that doesnt really help :(

You can zoom out in PDF Reader. I'm not sure if you can get in into several columns instead of one big one.

OK fellas, I did one (then another).

That picture in 64 black and white sheets. This one's going in my living room.

Then I went ahead and did another for my bedroom.

Now I've gotta go to the store and get a boat load of tape. Thanks for your consideration.

If you want to see them for yourself I've hosted them on my server.

The first one: http://gozips.uakron.edu/~brc12/color_bulb_fractal.pdf
56k warning: it's nearly 8 MiB

The second one: http://gozips.uakron.edu/~brc12/dragonfire2_fractal.pdf
56k warning: it's nearly 7 MiB

I think it came together nicely.

I love the Rasterbater. I have installed on my PC here at work; and I've got a rasterized poster at home. Just put up a giant Ron Burgandy poster in B/W in our tech room here.

Lol! There's still a chance.

When I get home tonight I'll take a shot of the black and white one in the living room. It didn't turn out as well as the color one did. I put the B&W one together first and I discovered that my taping method sucked. Try two came out just right.

Thats amazing. Where did you get the image from? and are there any others? I want something like that but I've ran out of wall space :(

How much ink did that use?!
I printed it out on a Color LaserJet in a drafting lab at work. Sometimes the drudgery if IT has its benefits. :p It printed out in less than a minute. God help me If I had to wait for my printer at home to chug through that. It've taken it all afternoon!

I did a Google search for fractals and the second one on the list caught my eye. Both these designs came from that site. I remembered fractals from a Slashdot article I'd seen a while back about how a site got DDoS'd by Google searchers.

Edit: Here's the other one I did.
