Hi everyomne
I am looking to get a new laptop within the next three months to replace the one in my sig.
Am reasonably clued up on computers in terms of using, fixing etc so would place myself in the advanced user area. But have simply not kept up with the latest developments because I simply am not into the really large and heavy games.
At the moment I am looking at a notebook from a UK company called ******** (have used them before and great service pre & post). The laptop is a Clevo base that they then customise to a degree.
The specs are:
i7-3720 @ 2.6Ghz
4x4Gb DDR3@1600Mhz
Samsung M8 1Tb 8Mb Cache
128GB Cruicial M4 SSD Hard Drive
DVD Writer
GTX 670M
I would be looking at using it for:
Web Design: Running SQL server and webserver for testing along with dreamweaver.
Games: heaviest would be Ship Simulator Extremes
Standard everyday use
Must haves are:
17 inch screen, ideally with a 1920 resolution which being in the UK is very hard to find
Ability to gain access to components to keep dust free
Reasonably solid and sturdy
What I currently have, albeit slowly and sometimes very very slow, does everything except the games. Even older games are now starting to take their toll on the laptop and temperatures rise quite easily. Bad part of an HP being that you cannot take it to bits easily to clean out the dust etc. However compressed air has been used in all the vents and it did reduce the temps by a couple of degress, likewise tilting the laptop so extra room underneath has helped. Something I like about the Clevo is that I can remove the bottom and give it a good clean.
I do not tend to buy each year or two etc, but aim to keep a laptop for about 5 years. The last one is now in its fifth year, so follow the logic of get the best you can for a good price without going silly etc.
Budgetwise the ******** is priced at £1400 roughly so open to saving some if possible. One thing I keep reading is about the new ATI cards coming out soon are they that much better than what is in the above?
Thanks for any advice and thoughts you may have.
Paul
