I've got a winXP laptop with a corruped hard drive. Want to run scandisk to try and fix it but it wont for want of trying let me.

How exactly do you run scandisk in dos?

Cheers!

If your disk is NTFS then you can't use the old DOS version of SCANDISK as it can't read and repair NTFS partitions.

Try to use CHKDSK from XP.

I was looking to do that, but its only got these recovery disks that came with the laptop. I'm assuming one has XP on it, but when you boot from them I cant see the recovery consol, just an option to format and reinstall. I'd rather not try that just yet!

I've had a similar problem before on my main computer (sys file corrupt/not found so couldnt boot) I was able to run scandisk somehow and that fixed it straight away...
