Hi all,

I need to send someone a 250mb file.

What's the easiest and safest way to do this please?

Thanks

Do you have anywhere you can host the file online? IE Webspace, you could upload it to your webhost and provide them with the URL to download?

Dropbox is perfect for this. Can link to it publically or share it with other approved dropbox users if you don't want it public.

Most secure way thought would be something like SFTP host to host. But more of a faff to set up.

If you want to be totally hardcore you could create a web server to host the file and use your home connection. A bit of work to do though. ;)

You may as well just use something like Skype to do it if it allows for files that size as a direct file transfer. You might want to try ICQ too.

filezilla is great if you do that kind of thing a lot like me, but might be a bit complicated for a 1 off. if all else fails a cd, an envelope and royal mail will do it.
drop box is easy.

+1 to dropbox.
I now have about 2.5gb free, it's just a folder.. you drop it in, it syncs online and you can download it anywhere.

You can have share settings to share selected files with selected people. We used it for a few group courseworks at Uni so everyone could work on something, it was great. Just make sure not to work on the same file at the same time :)

Dropbox for one file? Install ftpd for one file? Waste of time.

Use something like yousendit.

Don't see how that's any less hassle than signing up for a free Dropbox account...

The only bit you can do without signing up is email it... which for 250MB will almost certainly bounce clean off the recipients mail server.
If you have to fill in details and sign up for a trial to upload to a folder, might as well go with Dropbox and have it not expire after 14 days.
