My PC is in the attic above the spare room and I've linked to my CX (directly below) with a 3m long high speed HDMI and it runs fine. I'm now looking to add my Dell S2721DGF which is on the other side of the room and I need a cable between 7.5m - 10m. I want to drive 2560x1440 @ 120Hz minimum. It'll be driven by my 6800XT so I think DP will still give me Freesync?

Is this wishful thinking or can DP provide the bandwidth over that length of cable?

You'll need active cables to get >120hz more than 5 meters as far as I'm aware
You MAY have luck with a standard cable, but I've learned the hard way - take the cost, get an active cable, and don't look back.

I've only done it with hdmi though, trying to get 4k 60. I thi k that's similar band with to what OP needs, so maybe hdmi is an option?

That's the sort of thing - Important to note that it will only work one way round.

Also check that the bandwidth is sufficient for your resolution/refresh target, and that the hdmi port on your GPU and monitor are updated enough to take it.

Not on the Dell, although I'm now considering a monitor upgrade so the cable is still relevant.

I'll research some long HDMI 2.1 cables. :)

FIBBR 8K HDMI Fiber Optic Cable 20M, 48Gbps 8K HDMI 2.1 Cable/AOC Support 8K@60Hz, 4K@120Hz/144Hz HDR eARC Dolby Atmos HDCP 2.2&2.3 Compatible with PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, TV

These work pick the length you need they are active and I use the 20 metre version without any issues on a 3090 to tv.
