Ok so i spent a lot of money on this PC and it just.. doesn't run as fast as cheaper models i see in stores with less power. Hopefully you guys can help me work out what is failing here.

Motherboard - MSI Z68A-GD55
HDD - Samsung F1 1TB
CPU - i7 2600k @ 4.1GHz
PSU - 850 LEPA Gold Modular PSU
Cooler - Antec Kuhler 920
GPU - GTX 550ti (Currently getting a new one, was on 580 before and it was still slow then, upgrading to probably 670)
RAM - G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz

I'm running W7 64bit Legit, and it jsut runs slow.. i have Avast Anti-vir and use CCleaner regularily.

Help if you can :)

Slow startup ( 5-6 minutes )

It's not zippy loading things or saving etc like i would expect it to be.

I get lag on games like saints row the third even on DirectX 9 mode..

Generally you have a nice PC there.

As valkynaz says, where specifically are you finding your performance is not up to scratch?

If you have had your windows install in place for a while - a fresh install usually really speeds things up. Just make sure you backup.

The two clear areas of improvement are the graphics card (which you are planning to upgrade) and the storage drive.

The Samsung F1 was a decent mechanical HDD, but with such a nice spec you really want an SSD - as it makes your system so much more responsive. If you are looking for a recommendation, this excellent Crucial M4 128GB SSD is currently only £108.

If you do go down the SSD road then make sure you install windows on it - alongside all your main applications and a couple of games. Everything you put on the SSD should experience a noticeable performance increase in storage-heavy tasks (like loading).

May I ask what resolution monitor you are using and do you still have the GTX 580 available to use?

You can also decrease your boot up times by enabling all cores upon booting.

Open the msconfig menu (run > type in "msconfig" > enter), boot tab, advanced options, check the "number of processors" box and set cores to 4. Okay everything and restart.

what sort of things have you got loaded to run at startup and how many of the possible usb connections available do you have in use.

Restarted it and took 4minutes and 12 seconds before it was useable.

It gets to "Welcome" on the windows screen in about 20 seconds from boot, it then takes 2 mins on the welcome bit, then the rest on loading the 2 gadgets i have "GPU Meter and CPURAM meter" and i dont know what else, no programs except for my audio and nvidia and avast start up on boot.

EDIT

USB's - Mouse - Keyboard -

I personally wouldn't recommend a caching SSD like the synapse as these days SSDs big enough to be usable in their own right (imho 120GB+) can almost be classed as "affordable".

I say this because while a cache SSD system is better than a standard HDD, using a pure SSD as the boot drive is better still and really not much more expensive, you just need to be happy working between two drives (your boot drive SSD and your storage drive HDD).

In the meantime I would also recommend you have a look at some free software called Soluto. This analyses the tasks that load up at boot (and increase the time for the PC to be fully usable) and gives you the option to pause or delay their loading.

Yea, it helps a bit - but often there are other things slowing you down.

I would strongly recommend you backup your key data and then do a clean install of windows. It is a bit of hassle, but believe me it really is worth it once it's done.

Sounds like something is serioulsy wrong here. No way should a PC of that spec take over 4 mins to boot. Mine takes a matter of second from hitting the on button to surfing the net. Although my crucial M4 SSD certainly helps here :)

If I were you, I'd do a clean reinstall of windows. And as you're doing that, put a nice 128Gb SSD in. The M4 for £108 is awesome value.

have you tried disabling loading the 2 gadgets ?

does Soluto give you an idea of where the boot time is being used ?

Can my case and Mobo take a SSD?

The gadgets only remove like 5seconds or nothing tbh

Your motherboard can certainly take an SSD (in fact you could say it is made for it - with the inclusion of native SATA3 ports).

As for your case, may I ask what case you have? Though to be fair, if you case can take 3.5in Hard drives, then it can take an SSD using an adapter like this. Also, SSDs are small, light and have no moving parts - so quite a few people just attach them to the inner side of their case using velcro or double-sided tape.
