My 8800gts just died and I need to upgrade. I was looking into buying a ATI 4850 but I'm not sure if its the best fit for my current mobo.

Current set up.

- Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 Overclocked @ 3GHz.
- ASUS P5N32-E SLI PLUS Motherboard
- BFG 800W Next Generation Power Supply

Is this card the idle for my power supply/motherboard?

thanks.

A 4850 will work fine with your setup. It should give you similar performace as before (assuming it was an 8800gts 512mb), however you will not be able to add a second card in the future as you board supports sli not crossfire.

You may want to have a look at a 4870 as one is now sub-£100 and delivers much better performance than a 4850.

Yeh the card will work fine, as cmndr andi says it's dual ati cards that won't work on your setup. If your thinking about going sli in the future get a nvidia card.

The ATI 4850 looks like a nice card aswell. It'll be better than your old 8800GTS. You'll be able to get straight back to Left 4 Dead. *cough* Robert1986 Left 4 Dead *cough* ;)

A bit over my budget. The 4850 is abit much for me as well. My pc doesn't get any gaming these days. Its mainly used for video encoding and watching movies. I just need a budget card to get me by for now. Might upgrade for all the big games at the end of the year.

I might just grab the 4650 as its under £50.

People still play L4D? I haven't logged onto steam in several weeks. lol.

PSU is more than enough. If you want something just to 'get by' try one of the Sapphire fanless ATI cards. The 4500's ain't too bad, they're silent and cost about thirty notes.

Decided to go for this for just now.

Asus ATI Radeon HD 4670 512MB GDDR3

I don't really plan on playing any new games until the big ones (L4D2,WM2 ECT) come out at the end of the year.

What should I do with my 8800gts? It came from ocuk in a full system build but I can't RMA it without sending the whole machine back.

I'm so pleased you went for the 4670 and not the 4650, because it's a far superior card for the same money! Hope it works out for you

+1.

The 4670 is still a perfectly capable card by all accounts and I would imagine that it'll be marginally better than your 8800GTS. With regards to what you should do with your old card, does it still have manufacturer's warrenty? Because maybe you could send it straight back to the manufacturer and get a replacement from there, then either keep the replacement as a spare or sell it on.

Oh, and get back on steam you fool! :D

The card came with my full machine build that I bought from here in March 2007.

When ever I log into steam now, I instantly get invites for L4D. Its like when I log into my 4 year msn account and 400 new friend spam requests windows pop up. lol.

Just got the 4670. Installed no problem. Its tiny compared to the 8800gts beast. This card doesn't even need a power connector.
