...or do I? Been using a cheap blue odbii cable for 15 years to just read and clear codes, it needed a huge lot more than that with the free version of vagcom.

Given times have moved on though, I'm thinking of stumping up sub £200 to get full functionality out of "something" I would default to the Ross Tech stuff but there do look to be more alternatives than ever, if I can spend £100 instead of £200 etc it'd still be a consideration.

I've said it in a few threads but - the Xtool A30M is what you want. Such a powerful tool and from your phone.

I've had two different people now say that a mechanic with their SnapOn tool couldn't resolve their issue (whether that was a problem with the mechanic or the tool I don't know!) but this little A30M could. You should be able to get it for around £150 either on Xtool's own website or Amazon with a discount code and I guarantee, there is nothing remotely near this budget which has this level of functionality. It also has free lifetime updates and is usable on unlimited cars.
