Need to upgrade

Hi

I have had an overclocked 2500k now for about 6 years and think its about time i upgraded, dont want to go overboard so what would be a good CPU, Mobo RAM combination? Just looking for a good upgrade, not the best possible components

Depends on usage really. For gaming the i5-8400 is hard to beat on a budget. What is your budget and usage?

Along with Ted's recommendation, I'd also add (depending on budget) that paying a bit more for an i7-8700 (which is at a great price just now - £275) could easily add 2-3 years standing the test of time before having to upgrade again compared to the 8400 (and maybe there'll be DDR5 so the DDR4 will be useless). An example of how sometimes paying a bit more now can save more later.

i love the 8400... at first launch price, right on the heels of ryzen 1600! then prices shot up
as Dan has mentioned above, i7 8700 non K! doesnt melt polar ice caps and 4.3ghz boost across all cores and finally i decent price on it! didn't find any bottle necks with 8400 at 1080p so 8700 should be a dream! will last a good few years
