Need to vent

Happened to me in a 1973 Midget @ about 55mph. At some point point in its refurb history some dufus had removed the secondary catch, which I'd failed to spot. £1500 all in to get it sorted - came up with such a force that it pushed down the base of the windscreen and left a good one inch gap twixt window and seal.

Well, Dad says he definitely didn't close it at all, just set it down, so it wasn't a catch failure.

Jeeze, even if he had left it properly up...

Anyway, cost is covered. Just have to put up with another week or so of scrounging a lift.

Has anyone got any tips or such to prevent any future problems with the catch incase it ever does happen? It'll constantly be on my mind now as a possibility.

Never gonna happen again just give the bonnet a push before driving off if you are worried.

Is your dad coughing up? I think he should :)

Happened to me in my first ever car, had just picked it back up from the sprayers after having it fully resprayed.

Driving home with a big grin on my face then POW, windscreen is full of blue and im hitting the kerb.

Did manage to stop safely but i think a bit of poo might have come out while i was sat there trying to think what to do.

Long story short, i ended up paying for a new bonnet, windscreen, some welding where the hinges are, and some spray work as the garage said i should have checked the bonnet before driving off, and my solicitor agreed with him.

Not my best day ever.

Yeah he is. Gonna bring it into the local Renault dealership when it's fixed up for them to have a look at the latch anyway just to make sure. Just had a look at a group on Facebook of people who have had that problem and it's pretty terrible how Renault refuse to take responsibility.

Dad said he was impressed at how calm I was when it happened and how safely I got it pulled over without being able to see much. :p

Clearly just trying to lighten my mood I think. :p
