Basically I am going to be re-doing my room layout as it's been the same for years and want something better.

Currently i've got a PC on its own and a nice 32" samsung TV on the other side of the room, with a freeview + dvd recorder box.

I was planning to build a HTPC but decided there is little point as I'm going to put my new desk near the TV, which will be wallmounted. So want to run the PC through that for blueray movies etc.

So the main thing I want to do is get a decent quiet blueray drive for the PC, decent speakers and decent sound card. Issue is there's no spare SATA ports as they are obstructed by my graphics card.

So I'm wondering either mod this PC or upgrade it, perhaps go i7. I've been looking at the overclocked bundles etc, but end of the day my machine is not that slow?

Budget is upto £1000 w/o selling old PC.

So this is the current spec, what would you change? Or should I just get a new system from scratch? Would like to think I will get £500 ish for the old system:

Antec Solo Case
msi p35 neo2 fr mobo
Q6600 G0 - currently stock but have been running 3.4 easily
freezer7 pro
4gb ram
2x wd6400aaks raid 0
8800gt /w accelero s1 & fans fitted
dvdrw
650w corsair

If I do build a new system, I will reuse the hard disks + dvdrw. Everything else I will replace, inc the PSU as I want a modular one. I'm not much of a gamer any more, but I am a power user and expect it to run anything I chuck at it

Any reccomendations on a case by the way? I'm past the stage of crazy gaming systems with cathodes, side windows etc etc. i.e. I hate the look of the Antec 900/1200 etc. I like the look of some silverstone & lian li cases, needs to be black, decent design inside e.g. side facing hdd trays and no door on the front.

Thanks

Id go for this, after selling your old system comes in on budget, as an alternative you could go for an alternative speaker set up, eg hifi or home cinema kit, your call on that
Edit: included new HDD as it will be much faster than your old one(s), if it were me Id get 3 in RAID5, forgot to allow for this

that soundsystem is overkill for anything other than a mansion im not even joking. the sub is huge. its got an 11" subwoofer. the inclosure for that is about 1.5 feet cubed. and the satalites are quite big...these are more than ample at a fraction of the cost.

i have the x-540's and they are deafening with my soundcard turned all the way up and the speakers at about halfway on the wired remote.. why spend 250 when something for 60 - 80 acheives neighbour annoyance levels :D

also bigger psu??? be quiet 650w??
