Need upgrade advice

Right im looking to move from the amd platform to intel so i was either looking athe 2011 with i7 3820 or 1155 with i5 2500k. Im looking more at the 2011 side due to the pcie lanes as my 2 gfx cards both have 3 slot coolers on them so if i went with a 1155 mobo i would be limited. Due to lower slots being x4 etc, what would your thoughts be on this?
 
Even a decent priced Z68 board has enough space for SLI 3 slot coolers. Such as this:

For gaming, an i5 2500K is great and the extra cost of the 2011 platform is mostly wasted.

What else do you need? A decent cooler will get you 4.5Ghz+ out of the i5 :)

If i was to run sli in these slots would they both run at x8?
 
Is there any motherboard id be able to do it like that with? This is why i was looking at the socket 2011 mobos in the 1st place

Easier to just accept the fact that the two cards will be on top of each other with a small gap between them and get a Z68 board such as the Gigabyte etc that does SLI@8X/8X
