So iv got a xfx 4870 1gb connected it and well, i dont know how hot does it have to be but i am just kinda got scared when i got my hand near it after about 10 mins of usage it became quite hot and im just wondering did i do something wrong or what> or does it have to be like that...

Iv got a Corsair 750w power supply and i connected the PCIe cables both of them to the graphics card, did i had to use some other method or something...

realy do need help, thanks...

download and run GPUz at the same time as Furmark and report back the temperatures and we can help. Gfx cards often reach 80ºC under load.

well thats the problem i dont have an operating system installed yet... iv got a CD with WinXP and hard drive with nothing on it :P so i dont know how to check temperature.

If you don't have an OS installed then the only way you can check the temperature is with a probe.

Dont have one+ never used one + dont know where to get 1

what would happen if i use it till i install the OS? and if it is overheating is there some sorta way of knowing when its realy overheating... i mean will there be a way of telling when to turn it of so i wouldnt lose the card?

becouse before i had a good old Nvidia 7200se so that was realy cool, but when the fan stoped working one day due to time... the game i was playing started to realy run slow and i just shut it down. after i replaced the fan worked fine again.

Graphics cards are often the hottest part of a system, so I wouldn't worry too much. If the fan is spinning and there are no artifacts on screen then the card is likely within operating temperature.

i would not touch the g-card after the using for a while. if u read manual or look on the card the should be a sticker that says hot surface.

they can get hot as 80c u can burn your fingers .

If your wanting to install your operating system then your going to have to use it anyway unless you have a spare card lying around.

To be fair though, unless you've built your cards cooling system yourself (watercooling etc) which by the way you seem to be a little bit new to this (not in a bad way) i very much doubt you have it'll be fine. If its plugged in straight enough to put up a picture on the screen it'll be fine.

Computer parts get hot, hence all the fans. They will be hot to the touch and its completely normal. Hell, my housemates 8800gtx heats up the side of the case a good 4-5 inches away. The 7200 would have been a much slower card and because of it, more likely a lot cooler.

great news thanks all for the help and advice :)
now i can enjoy instaling all of the other drivers and programs : (

the ati cards are ok to up to 125 c .this is what i was told by a ati technician .

realistic up to a hundred should be fine as the new ati cards do run hot.
