just today got my new parts and built my pc, i got it all set up and its started nicely installed win8.1 (regret this choice should have got 7) and my pc isn't recognizing my gpu, when i try installing the drivers on the cd wich came with it (r9 290) i get an error message saying unpack failure, im worried i plugged the gpu in the wrong slot, on my mobo i have a pci express and a sli, my gpu is in the pci express please help

What motherboard are you using?

Also is the monitor lead plugged into the gpu and not the onboard video.

I remember having this trouble with my first build in June for an R9 280. I seem to remember that I needed to disable and uninstall the intel HD graphics drivers (with something like DDU) and also in the BIOS choose my GPU as the main graphics processor.

It really flustered me and the above may be incorrect but it was sorted eventually and has been trouble free since. I will see if I can find my old thread and refer you to it then...
