Just got some new ram for my old pc, 2gb crucial ram but when i install my pc works yet doesn't produce a screen and does a beep for a few seconds then again.

I've put both in the green slots of my msi neo 2 platinum board since the manual says, any ideas what to do?

My previous memory was installed in a green socket and a purple by a friend for some odd reason.(2 sockets used and 2 empty.)

Which 2gb crucial ram did you buy?
Will your pc boot with just your old ram in it still?
Are you trying to boot with 4 sticks from different brands or just your new stuff ?

If you are trying to boot with 4 sticks in you might need to up the voltage on the northbridge or ram, or both.

Thanks for the replies, i bought the 2gb crucial ram from here, normal ddr and i have a 430w(might be 480) tagan psu with my 7600gt, athlon 3500, 160gb hd, the board stated and this.

Should work still? or psu not enough?

I haven't tried my old sticks again yet or with the new combined.

What you might need to do is boot with 1 stick in, set the voltage and timings in the bios to the correct values then turn off and stick the 2nd stick in.

Sorry for a stupid question but any ideas what they would be? should i leave voltage to default?

It's this memory too by the way: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp... DDR Memory Dual Channel Kit (CT2KIT12864Z40B)

Edit: Tried 1 stick in green slot and still does it.I am baffled.

Edit 2: In bios now after inserting old ram in green slots, maybe just reset everything there?

I've reseted to fail-safe settings via bios when using my old sticks so i put new ones back in after in green slots butworking now though it's asked me to reactivate windows again due to a hardware change and not detecting soundcard aswell as ethernet sigh.(i'll just reinstall motherboard drivers.)

It is ok to keep them in both green? thanks again for the replies.

running with both in green = you are running your ram in single channel mode (ie slower) best bet is to place 1 in the first green slot1 and 1 in the first purple slot2.

Yeah just changed it now, was running 157mhz according to cpu-z so changed to how you said and now it's 201mhz. :D

Thanks for the advice guys, you included Gunda, was getting a bit annoyed considering i had these issues when i just found my mother's got Diabetes plus has had cancer in the past, sigh.

Ah well i am happier now, thanks again.:)

Sorry to bump my thread again but i have a slight problem, installed the memory in the slots Gunda has stated but i can sometimes get a "Machine_Check_Exception" bsod even though i've installed them correctly.

Could this be the 2 slots being faulty? should i try putting them in slots 3 and 4?

Also it never seems to occur when idling in windows or surfing the internet, happens mainly in a game.
