I was running Intel Burn Test at 3.8Ghz on my c0 i7 and GA-X58-UD5 and blue-screened... fine... reboot.
Then for about 20-restart's I couldn't enter the bios for some reason.
Then when it starts windows 7, It get's just past the welcome screen, and the whole screen is black apart from the white text in the bottom corner that says the build & evaluation copy etc.
I clear the CMOS and reboot AGAIN and finally get into the bios to switch the SATA mode back to RAID so I could try to boot up at stock speeds.

Basically, now I can boot-up in safe mode... and that is all.
There are no LED's lit up on the board, and if I try to boot into windows, it gets stuck at the welcome screen indefinatly.

If I've killed the mobo or RAM, how can I still boot into safe-mode?
If not... how do I fix this?

Okay.... So I used a System Restore Point, and was able to boot back into windows and everything worked seemingly okay.
I restarted the PC to see if I could enter the BIOS and change some settings, but low and behold, once again, I could not enter the BIOS.
It doesn't seem to matter how many times I try, but I cannot enter the BIOS.
What's odd is, The Gigabyte splash screen, only lasts for about a single second. Whereas usually it'd last around 10 seconds - and I'd be able to enter the BIOS.

Anyway, BIOS aside, it then proceeded to get stuck at the welcome screen again.
Meaning I am now BACK in safe-mode, and again, unable to boot into windows.
Unless I use another system restore point, in which case, it will do the same thing again anyway.

hmmm can you make sure there aint any keys suck on the keyboard or mouse... sometimes if a key is stuck it does similar behavior to yours.... if not then plug in the keyboard into another usb socket and see if u can enter bios.... also what version of bios do you have??

[edit] have you installed ur usb chipset drivers from the Gigabyte mobo cd??

No idea what version of BIOS. No keys stuck. I'll go try a different USB socket, I just clicked install all on the gugabyte drivers disk.

ok

keep me posted....

u can check ur bios version via system info software like Everest i knew how to check through windows but i forgot now lol..

Try using a non usb keyboard assuming yer board has a ps/2 socket . If i have reset my bios my normal Alchemy USB keyboard wont let me in the bios and i have to use a ps/2 one
Persil

I dont have a PS/2 keyboard so cant really try that.
But another thing I have noticed is that on startup there is a short period of time where the backlight on my keyboard and mouse turns off, so it looks like the mouse and keyboard are not turned on...
Could this be why?
If so... what do I do?

Do you have a CMOS Clear button or a reset facility on the board?

You could try removing the battery for 30 mins. Sounds like a messed up CMOS.

I'll give it a go.
I did before, but it didnt seem to help. At least I can access the OS now.

So do I turn PC off, then clear CMOS, then remove battery, wait, replace, turn on?

Whats the process?

Power off, switch off main plug, press power button to discharge the board.

take battery out. wait 30 minutes. no harm in waiting a bit longer just incase. Then put battery back in, switch back on.

If that don't work, then I'd try buying a PS/2 keyboard if your mobo supports one.

The UD5 has a clear cmos button on the rear panel so no need to go touching the battery. If you leave it after a bad overclock for 30 seconds it also clears the cmos.
