Hello .... I have posted here to ask for your help

I have a Cerwin Vega cv-2800 power amp ....

I also have a technics ca-1080 Stereo ....

The question is how do I wire these to together so the work as one .... I like the sound out of the stereo..... but it does not have enough power to power my speakers the way I want ..... I have Cerwin Vega xls 215 ....

What cables do I need ....?

Where do they go ..... ?

Can this even be done ??? ( I hope so )

Please help me with this I just way to power these speakers the way they should be

Any help would be much appreciated

Thank in advance

Can’t load any pics up the show the back of the components.... but I’m sure you can google it .... sorry

This is your midi-system. LINK. You might have just the pre-amp/power-amp combo or the whole midi system.

This is the rear of the pre-amp/power-amp combo in isolation. LINK

The link from the pre-amp (top) to the power-amp (bottom) is via the flat ribbon cable rather than conventional RCA plugs and sockets. The right-hand side of the power-amp shows speaker connection on spring clip terminals, and there RCA sockets (black, white, red). These are outputs. The speaker wire sockets should be self-explanatory. The RCA sockets are for an external sub (black) and Dolby Surround speakers (white, red). These are not suitable for connecting an external amplifiers. Do not connect an external amplifier to these sockets.

The image of the rear of the system also shows the available socket on the pre-amp. None of these are suitable for connecting an external power amp. The DCC Rec (Out) sockets and the VCR 1 Out sockets are fixed level. The sound from them does not vary in proportion to the setting of the volume control. The rest of the sockets inputs. They're no good for getting sound out of a device.

The bottom line is that there are no directly compatible sockets on the back of the SE-CA1080 system, so it's not possible to use the CV power-amp with this Technics stereo directly.

As I see it, you have three options:

* Change the Technics system- or buy a separate pre-amp with RCA sockets. This will be easier to connect. Look at Rotel, Quad, ARCAM for starters.

* Perform surgery on the Technics ribbon cable to get at the stereo L & R signals. Note: You'll wreck the cable in the process and so destroy the ability to use the two Technics pieces together ever again. Probably better off to sell them as a combo to the idiots that pay daft money for the brand.

* Buy a speaker-level to line-level convertor, then connect the Technics power amp to that, then use the output to drive the CV power amp. The pros are that the Technics kit doesn't get wrecked, and you can make the connections using simple off-the-shelf audio leads. The cons are that the signal will contain the distortion from the Technics power amp, and this gets larger as the volume increases. Larger amounts of distortion mean there's more chance of blowing the tweeters in the speakers.

Your CV XLS-215 speakers are very efficient (95dB), so don't need huge amounts of power to drive them. However, if you're playing at high volumes frequently then that's when you'll notice that the Technics amp runs out of stream quite early on.

From the options listed above, I would go for changing the Technics for a pre-amp, or even an integrated amp with pre-out sockets. That will give you the cleanest signal to the CV amp and speakers.

Wow Lucid ... Thank you for your reply ... and all that wicked info ... looks like I will do as you advise ... and get a pre-amp or an integrated amp .... I take it if I do that I will have to buy different tuner / CD player and even cassette player and link them all together .... ( I love my old rave tapes ) .... I will have to sell the technics ..... its done me good but time to move on .... I was hoping there was a way but I now know that’s a no ... thank you again for your time to reply your a good man kind sir ....
