Guys, I need your thoughts here please.

My system is as per my sig below. I am running Windows 7 x64, fully updated along with Kaspersky Internet Security 2011.

My RAM is set to 400mhz (9x 400) as it will be unstable at anything much above 400, due to having 8gb installed.

I have just recently (as in the last week) started having cold boot issues, in that my display flickers on/off/on/off for a couple of minutes every cold boot, then after a couple of minutes it is completely fine, and even upon several restarts, never does this again.

This now happens every day, the 1st time I boot the system.

I never ever had any issues with this system whilst running Windows XP Pro, and am wondering if it is something to do with Windows 7, but I cannot confirm this at the moment. I do have an old HDD with XP Pro still installed on it, so may fire that back in and see what happens.

I have not changed anything over the last week, so other than maybe a dodgy automatic Win 7 update (which I am unaware of) I am at a loss.

I have tried resetting my Q6600 to stock, but it made no difference at all.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Could it be a failing PSU? (I don't have another to test at the moment though).

I have ran Intel Burn Test, Memtest, Prime95 and SuperPi, all of which will run without errors.

Please help out with your suggestions, as I am all out of ideas, and pretty soon the machine will meet with my claw hammer :D :p

Unfortunately I don't have either of those, but I doubt they are the issue. I haven't gamed in a while and the GFX card is always kept nice and cool, and the monitor is well looked after too.

I am swaying towards the PSU being on it's way out. I have a 480w Tagan in another system in the house. I know it will be at it's limit, but it might be worth trying to run this system with it for a day or 2. If the problem goes away, then I am sorted, if not then at least I can rule out the PSU.

Only good thing is both my PSU and GFX are under warranty :)
 
What about connecting the pc up to a tv (use as only monitor) and see if it does the same. My firends ilyama died on him in showing the same sort of symptoms as yours and he always looked after his monitor and never abused it.

PC bits die sometimes regardless of how well you treat them :(
 
Yeah, I may well give that a go too. Going to try hooking up the other PSU tonight for 1st boot tomorrow and will see how that goes.
 
Sorry I dont know. He just tried it out on his fathers machine and it displayed the same fault so he just replaced it.
 
dour, good call mate, seems the monitor is at fault. I left it off most of the day and upon switching on again, I didn't press the power button on the PC, and the screen still flickered on/off, so looks like it's goosed.

Just my luck is it's 2 months out of warranty :(
 
Cool glad thats sorted but gutted about the warrenty :(

Nice new Benq 24" then?? :)

Ha ha, thanks for the offer, but having done some research, it would appear that £3 spent on capacitors should sort it out for me, happy days :D
 
Damn Samsung monitors... so it isn't just me :rolleyes:

Just about to RMA my 2433BW, which has nasty horizontal lines across the top of the screen. It developed 1 line about a month after I bought it, then they started to breed, I have about 40+ lines now. Luckily I took the extended 5yr warranty when I bought it as this is the 3rd LCD monitor ive had that's borked. 2 of which have been Sammy's
 
Ouch, thats pretty nasty! At least mine is still usable.

Quality wise I have been nothing short of impressed by it, in fact the only screen I have sat in front of that made me consider changing it was a high end Dell display, but I couldn't justify the cost tbh.

I am surprised to hear the Samsung's being quite unreliable.
 
Just thought I would leave a quick update - 2x 50p capacitors and 1x 20p capacitor replaced and the monitor is now as good as new :D
