hello OC'ers

i am having a bit of a problem getting the parts I need for a computer, basically I want something that can run WAR with little to no lag in the big RVR fights and other things such as scenarios, and general gameplay... I am not sure what my budget is atm, also I would like a monitor included if possible, im not entirely sure what my budget is atm but I'm thinking just under the 1k mark (GBP)

thanks for the help, oh and I know the recommended specs for WAR isn't out yet but use your best judgement

whats war?

Anyway, if the game isn't out, wait until it is for 2 reasons.

1) you will be saving some cash and can get the best hardware when the game in question does come out

And

2) whatever you buy now may not be able to play it flawlessly :)

Ahh you mean Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. This should be about right for most uses.
If you wanted you could get the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 instead of the quad core, if you wont be doing much multitasking, as its cores are running faster.

yeah sorry for not being specefic, thought everyone here were mad about games as I am :)

anyway, about the graphics card you have chosen would a 9600 GTS be better or inferior to that, just curios as I heard ATI always lacks behind nvedia...

WAR supports upto 2 cores so quad isnt really needed you would probaby be better of going for a higher clocked dual core cpu unless you plan on overclocking anyway.
if you want to save a bit of money you could drop the video card down to a 4850 and it would still be overkill for WAR

I see... well thanks for all your help, gotta consent my parents about building one they think only 'professional's can do it lol, anyway i appreciate it :)

The 4850 would still be a bit better than the 9600 and save you the best part of £100 for a system that will be more than enough for warhammer.

They need to keep those type of games fairly light so more people can run them. Kind of the opposite to crysis.

It's out on the 18th right?! Been waiting for this myself for a while now. Hoping it will take me away from the wow once and for all.

The build is really easy. The only tircky part is connecting the jumper cables. Would be a nice little project to get your old man involved in.

If you have the budget get a smallish SSD for the WAR install. From other MMO experience I can only imagine how painful the lag caused by seeking the textures for every item every person wears as they come into view will be. Especially considering the size of the battles they plan to have and the fact that the lag/slowdown caused will be during play, not loading before the map loads.

i would go with what aceshigh specced except:

i would change the CPU for a e8400 or e8600. i would also change the ram to some corsair with better overclocking capability aswell as change the Gcard to a sapphire model. id add a nice pioneer dvd-rw the quiet version thats available from OcUk for £20 aswell. i might also get 2 X HD's and set up a RAID0, you can prolly do that for under £1,000 with some decent drives, or even get a single raptor drive, but the samsung F1 is decent also :)

rest looks good, nice quiet cpu fan, good modular PSU, fast and quiet HD and leave you some money for a 22 or 24 inch LCD and a nice 2.1 speaker set up.

also get a nice aftermarket GPU cooler so you can crank up the clock settings on your ATI 4870 card to 90% and should hit 70c max load. replace the arctic cooling pro 7's thermal residue with some Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound and your good to go.

I thought the stuff that came with the pro 7 was actually better than AS5? Atleast thats what every one was saying when I got mine :)
