At the moment i have:

q9550@ stock
p5q3 mobo
4870 1GB gpu
4GB Corsair xms3 @1066mhz
Antec 900
900w psu (not that good)
Vista premium 64bit

Well basically i've been offered £480 for it as i've sort of been looking for an i7 system recently for performance future proofing (if that makes sense aha). Anyways is it worth me selling it and going for something like the i7 vanquish system thats on offer at the moment? It would be an extra £640 to put towards if i was getting it with a 4890, antec 902 and vista 64 + windows 7 voucher. Id use it mainly for gaming and generally tasks, maybe a bit of video rendering.

Is it worth it?

PS overclocking isn't really an option for me

Your current rig is very good. Unless you have a real urge to get i7 kit i would stick with what you have.

Why do you want to change your currrent machine?

Mainly because i think i'll get more mileage out of it and will be longer before i start seeing bottlenecks with gpus with the i7 (i think anyways). So yeh just cutting my losses really and wanting to get a rig that will last me longer. Please tell me if i'm wrong though aha

That PC is actually really good. Q9550, P45, 4870 1GB, 4GB DDR2 - thats a gaming rig through and through, i'm certain its worth much more than £480 (especially including vista 64 and an antec 900).

If you do a few upgrades - you will get quite a bit of extra performance out of it:

- Get a CPU cooler like this (+1 of these fans) and overclock the CPU - should be able to hit 3.5Ghz+

- Add a second 4870 in crossfire, much faster than a 4890

- If you are unhappy with your PSU, this one should fit the bill.

- If you want to spend any more money on "futureproofing" a nice monitor, speakers, mouse and keyboard last ages and can greatly improve your computer-using experience.

£480 for that spec!!!! That is totally NOT worth it at all!

Im with cmndr_andi, just do some tweaks here and there, really I cant see you having issues with that setup for at least another year or so

You reckon its a bad idea then? My main worry is that when i come to upgrade the gpu say in 7 or 8 months time i'll have a cpu bottleneck with no where to go but change everything. By that time the i7 series will still be prominent so i'm just wondering to just get it all out of the way now plus enjoy the top end hardware aswell.

Like the others have already said, your current spec is really good..

If you don't mind me asking, why is overclocking not an option for you??

Your current processor should be able to do 3.8 to 4GHz quite easily with a decent air cooler I would have thought??

If I owned a rig like you have just now, I wouldn't bother upgrading to i7...

No exactly experienced in overclocking and don't really want to mess things up and end up having nothing to sell and not even anything to use.
