Hullo all,

Can I get your advice on how best to mod and improve airflow in my case. I've got the original Lian Li pc7 with 3 80mm silenx ixtrema blue led fans. Since they're a bit crap and the machine isn't keeping my 4300 as cool as I'd like (70C load at 3Ghz on 1.4V on a zalman 9700) I'm going to invest in some bigger, better case fans.

I'm going to replace the exhaust 80 mm with a Sharkoon 2000 120mm, but I'm not sure what to do with the front of the case.

At the moment I've taken out the 3 HDD bay and front 3.5" slots and put a 120x38mm NMB Minebea SMARTFAN 12VDC 0.5A FAN 4715ML-012P535-P2 I had lying around in its place, resting on the 2 80mm fans and tied to the front of the case by cable ties. It's dropped my cpu temperature to about 47-49C at idle (3ghz 1.4v, zalman 9700 and the 120mm NMB fan at 9v) and 61-2. (Anyone have any experience with this fan and know how it compares noise-wise with the 2000 sharkoons?)

I'm a bit reluctant to take the dremel to the case around the 80mm fan holes on the front as it looks like I'll be left with a mangled hole to the side of the new 120mm fan if I do this... (DaveMac do you have those photos of your mod?).

If I leave the 120mm fan where the 3.5" bay used to be would it be pointless/much less effective to also mod one of the front 80mm holes to a 120mm (as there'd be much more inflow than outflow into the case...?)

How would you change my case?

Sorry for rambling a bit, any opinions would be appreciated!

This was my 6002 (even cheaper version of PC-7) they are identical to the 80mm version of the PC-7 internally.

Rear is a very tight fit against the I/O frame, almost don't need to fix it in place. The notches were to fit a wire guard internally but never did.

Front needed careful alignment to avoid the existing holes and cut-outs, and low enough to avoid the 3.5"frame.
Use some spacer blocks (~20mm piece of tubing) and the front USB ports are still usable.
I notched the USB bracket fixing holes to use the same screws to mount the fan.
The filter is still usable and covers most of the fan area.

This was how it ended up (socket A - going back a while!)

Ah righty ok thanks for that Dave :) I think I'm going to go overboard and put an antec 200mm tricool fan in the top as well as the sharkoons front and rear, as I've seen it for £14 elsewhere :). Will have to see how the silenteagle and yate loons compare to the 120x38 fan in there at the moment.

Cheers for your help.
