I've got about £210 to spend, and looking for a new CPU/MOBO/RAM bundle to last me till better intel quads arrive, or 9800s.

I'm looking at the "Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.33GHz (1333FSB)"
looks like a good prosc, but I'm curious how come it's cheaper, then the 1066 fsb 2.4 Ghz prosc? something to do with the multiplier?

if so... is the e6550 a bad overclocker? i'm hoping to take it to 2.6 or 2.8 on stock hsf/volts, and raise it to 3Ghz at a later date when I get an arctic cooler, will that be doable?

for RAM I don't think I can go wrong with GeIL 2GB DDR2 800Mhz.

Mobo's play a big part in overclocking and performance ofc, but it's finding the best bang for my buck.

I was thinking:

Abit Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLi nForce 650 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard - FSB 1333Mhz.
or...
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

I'm a noob hehe, so any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

get a asus p5kc , e1280 (clock the pants off it) and get 2gb or maybe even 4gb of geil or ocz 800mhz...

the e1280 is £50
the p5k is £76, and the p5kc is £88 (the p5kc has the option of ddr3 and is a slightly better board)
ram is as cheap as chips, 2gb should cost you £35, and a 4gb (2x2) should cost you £70
an arctic cooling freezer 7 will cost £17 and will eat heat... (cpu cooler)

since you are thinking of uprgading to a quad in the future this is a much better deal, as this baby will clock to 3.5+

ps for the moment intel chips are much stronger than nforce...

For overclocking I would avoid the Nvidia chipset Mobo's. You wont go wrong with the DS3.

If the main use for your PC is gaming then I would say get the E2180 and clock the spuds off it. There will be very little difference in performance compared to the E6550. The L2 cache makes almost no difference at all. It also has a 10x multi on it as well:D

With the DS3's great build quality and nice bios options you will be almost assured of doing 3.0ghz and beyond. But I would go for the DS3R not the L

If you are going Vista 64 then 4gb of ram might also be of use to you, if not then just minus a 2gb kit off the setup.

How about this -

Hope its of use to you.:D
