hey guys!

i recently upgraded my graphics card from a 8800gts 512mb to an ati 6950 2gb

this has given an amazing increase in games however im still getting slightly low fps in games like wow and i think this may be down to my processor!

im currently running a intel q6600 go 2.4ghz standard clock as i dont know how to overclock and i feel its time to upgrade!

so am i right in thinking i will also need a new motherboard? if so what should i go for? i want one thats good for gaming but doesnt break the bank tooo much, possibly £200-300 ish for a bundle of the motherboard and processor and maybe new ram!

any advice would be awesome, thanks :D

What motherboard have you got for your Q6600? What set of RAM have you got? You might not even need to spend £200-300 just to get better FPS. You might just need an aftermarket cooler for overclocking. OCing the Q6600 will help minimise the bottleneck of the CPU against your new GPU. OCing is not as hard as you think it is.

Well, if your really want to get new stuff then get an i5 2500K + MSI P67A G45 + Corsair/Kingston/OCZ 1600 4Gb RAM.

Your setup is still good, just buy a decent air cooler and learn how to overclock. There will be plenty of guides online or if you want a more personal touch, make a thread in the Overclocking and Cooling section and they will help you.

However if you do go down the upgrade route I'd go with what Lelouch suggested except I'd go for the MSI P67A-GD53 as it has full Military Class II components and a physical button on the motherboard for an instant 4.2GHz overclock.

My motherboard is an asus p5ne-sli and i have brought an aftermarket cooler but apparently my motherboard isnt very good for overclocking from what i have read and i got rather confused ha!

I have 4gb ram not sure on specifics really

Hope this helps

Thanks :)

even if your motherboard isn't all that good at overclocking it should be pretty easy to get to 3Ghz which would be fine with a single 6950.

I would try the overclocking first, before spending £200 or more.

only problem is i havent a clue how to do it! i tried by upping the FSB (i think) to make it 3.00ghz and it ran rather unstable but im sure it can be done
