2nd thing my bro has just bought a laptop he has not got broadband installed on it, he has the same wireless network adapter as me so is there a way he can connect to the internet via my wirless router? will i need to install bt broadband on his laptop 1st?

You should be able to connect just using Window's WZC service. Your network should have had an encryption key set, use that key in the box that Windows popups when you attempt to connect to your access point.

They'll be an option called "View Wireless Networks" if you right-click on the Wireless Network Connection entry in your Network Connections page.

Also I'd recommend getting a decent PCI card instead of a USB adapter.
