I did search the Photography forum and found 1 other thread in the last 10 years (in 2020) from another user, so thought I'd ask again now for myself in case tech has moved on.

So - I'm asking for any recommendations for a negative scanner please. I used to have a scanner, a normal flatbed with a negative scanner in the lid compartment. It was decent but very slow in that it took about 5 minutes per strip of 4 exposures via USB connection.

A dedicated negative scanner looks like a pyramid and the recommendation in the 2020 thread was a Plustek OpticFilm 8100. One of the replies in that thread also suggested that the 35mm negs can be mounted between a backlight and the macro lens of a DSLR. I no longer own any camera equipment, so I think dedicated is the best route for me. I'm not fussy about price, maybe £200ish tops. It just needs to be quicker than my old method and is able to output around 3000 x 2000, ~6MP.

Looks like £300 is the entry point for serious scanners (i.e. no screen) that look more like a brick than a pyramid.

Hopefully that link won't be seen as a competitor.
