anyone got any idea just how far they can be pushed?

case in question. i have a slight interest in a vw polo i've seen on a main dealer forecourt that has gone fron £8.5k > £8k> £7k in about 6 weeks.

how much more room do you think there may be for another reduction?

Have a look to see what the same car is worth privately, Autotrader etc.
And see what the difference is, then try and guess what the dealer may have paid for it to part ex, allow a profit margin and then start bargaining.. The dealer in won't let it go without making something but thats where knowing the value comes in

As above really.

As it's the start of the month you won't see as much movement as (potentially) would be there close to month end.

If it's been reduced that much though then I doubt there's much wriggle room

i have researched comparitively and it does indeed seem a good deal. private ones going for the same in some instances but i know that they'll want shut of it as a used unit.

the end of the month thing is something i've overlooked too and explains why they reduced it on friday.

i'm going in to discuss my options with them this monday. i wonder if i should get all the figures and options and just walk and see if they get in touch with me towards the end of the month...

Only the dealer can tell you how much more movement there is in the price; it really depends on how much they paid for the car in the first place and how much they stand to make from your part-ex if you're making one.

If it looks like a good price already then you may get no discount at all.

If there is a particular car ie model/spec that you are after then say to the dealer to keep an eye out for you. tell him how much you are willing to spend. come the end of the month he might be down on his quota and take a chance by calling you with what you are after.

this is all on the assumption that you can wait a while for the right car to come along.
